Hi everyone, as part of your Coach Credentialing process ICF requires Coaches to get 10 hours of Mentoring in order to ensure a certain level of quality for its members.
Coach Mentoring is about developing the Coaching Core Competencies to reach a higher level of credentialing or simply to improve your practice.
Me and Caroline Beckett are considering creating a Coach Mentoring Package and we would love to offer more than just the mentoring hours.
What do you think would bring you the most value when subscribing to a Mentor Coaching Package?
Hi, as a ICF-ACC candidate, I would like to have the opportunity to share my problems in my current coaching with my clients, to have an external point of view. Especially that my job is not a pure coach. I am an Lean Agile coach that means in my practice, I am first more a trainer/expert on Lean and Agile most of my time but sometimes I have to switch to a more coaching position. So depending on the situation, I have to decide (sometimes with my client) which position I have to take. Then, on the coaching position, as a new-be, I need some guidance, to share and see new perspective, new ways of thinking, of doing or being. Does that make sense?
I am starting to think that what would be very helpful would be to have several recordings of Coaching sessions split into small segments to illustrate specific competences
This is really helpful input for the instructional design process as Alex and I collaborate in the delivery of Coach Mentoring programs. As International Coaching Federation (ICF) Coach Mentors we aim to ensure the best possible quality group and one-to-one mentoring available.
Thanks for your thoughts, it is a great addition to have illustrations of what good look like per core competency and for various levels of expertise.
I would recommend to take the mentees learning style and preference into consideration when creating a package. Personally I would prefer examples on what good looks like beside 1:1 feedback sessions. The examples can come in different from e.g. recording or a coaching session, executing a coaching session or observing a coaching session and analyze it afterwards. These should also be linked to what competencies the mentee wants and needs to develop to help the mentee to get a better understanding of the tools, techniques in different situations.
Thanks a lot Angela!
I have a few follow up questions :)
ICF recommends a minimum of 3 x 1-2-1 sessions for 7 group mentoring sessions. What ratio would you find optimal?
We have the possibility to create learning journeys like Coursera or Udemi propose, how valuable would you find that?
Hello Alex and Caroline. I suggest: 1-2-1 sessions, Group workshops to practice and receive feedback in a safe environment, Webinar - sharing insights, good practice, development support.
Currently we are thinking of putting a mix of 1 to 1 sessions and group mentoring + access to content
